Remember all those foundation cues you learned in Family Dog Basic Manners?

Well, now it’s time to start making them work for you and your dog in the real world!

Many people make the mistake of thinking once they’ve finished that first class, their dog is trained! If only that was true.

The reality is that we spent 7 weeks teaching your dog what each cue means, what we want from them when the cue is given and that it’s always the best choice for them to choose “right from wrong”. In short, we laid our foundation.

Now, in Family Dog Intermediate, we need to start teaching that we expect those “right choices” even when we aren’t in “teaching mode.”

Introducing the 3 D’s!

Distance + Duration + Distractions!

Group of dogs with various coats sitting on autumn leaves in a park.

The goal is to teach your dog impulse control!

Dogs learn by association. And it might sound silly to you but when we taught your dog a cue in Basic, we were always standing right next to them or right in front of them. But…..is that real life?

No! It’s definitely not. So we need to start proofing those cues by adding distance, duration and distractions. The 3 D’s.

We will work on speeding up your dog's response and understanding of the foundation cues as well as beginning some off leash and out-of-sight work.
